Episode 18: Blue Ruin

blue ruin

We capped off our annual Day of Sloth with a viewing of Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin, a revenge movie that feels like a Shakespearean tragedy and an old Western and Greek myth all at once. Watch this movie late at night with all the lights off and holding something comforting.

  1. Blue Ruin is so tight. Glad you guys reviewed it. Also, there’s another indie-flick thriller from 2013 with a Jesus bearded protagonist called The Battery that I quite enjoyed. It’s a well-paced little zombie movie with some truly memorable moments. Next time you have a rainy afternoon give it a try. (P.S. I’m still waiting for the Snowpiercer review.)

  2. Chad! This is Cheryl. First things first — we miss you! Can you move back to America, please? Second, Blue Ruin is indeed tight. I’m getting really into seedy suspenseful thrillers right now. We’ll try to track down The Battery. We’re watching the Walking Dead right now so we’re knee-deep in zombies and loving it. We’re trying to make Snowpiercer happen. We were in Ithaca, NY for 4th of July and we drove past a tiny movie theater that was showing it, but by then it was late at night and we had to wake up early the next morning to visit our friend at a commune. But we’re going to make it happen. I loved your movie recommendation list. We’re going to try track some of those down to review.
